Funke Opeke Discusses Digital Transformation in West Africa on Data Economy

Chief Executive Officer, MainOne, Funke Opeke was interviewed on Data Economy, a niche media platform providing insight and analysis on the world’s most critical IT infrastructure business segment and discussed the African telecommunications and data centre space, with emphasis on MainOne’s efforts in driving transformation within the continent.

She posited the explosion of mobile access, stronger economic growth and the liberalisation in the telecommunication environment as some of the reasons behind the growing demand for digital transformation and infrastructure in West Africa.

With an increase in consumer data volumes, she highlighted MainOne’s role as a Broadband Infrastructure company driving transformation opportunities within the continent through extensions of its submarine infrastructure into new markets, investments in terrestrial infrastructure to bridge the digital gap by connecting more of the underserved and establishing data centres to support the in-continent data hosting and migration of content back into Africa.

On Edge Computing, FKO mentions this is still a growing context in our market but hints at MainOne being in discussions with some of the major players to enable hosting such content on the continent. She also highlights a few of the company’s ongoing projects, such as the Francophone expansion, new Data Centre in Sagamu and expanding terrestrial infrastructure across our areas of operation.
