Speaking at the 25th National Conference of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) in Enugu yesterday, on the topic “Broadband Access for All: Issues and Strategies”, the Chief Executive Officer, Funke Opeke, MainOne, articulated that Infrastructure, Regulatory issues, and Content formed three critical areas required to expedite broadband penetration for Nigerians and enumerated progress in all of these areas. She further highlighted the role of information as a currency to actualize the conference theme, “Building a Knowledge-based Economy in Nigeria: the role of Information Technology” emphasizing the importance of hosting local content in indigenous Data Centers within the country.

Mr. Temitope Osunrinde, representing Ms. Opeke, noted the security and privacy risks in Enterprises hosting their critical data abroad, coupled with the attendant costs and stressed the ability of MainOne’s Tier III Data Center to provide world-class colocation services to enterprises, governments and organizations dependent on reliable hosting facilities. She noted that these organizations would benefit from reduced capital costs and shared operational costs, and enhanced focus on their primary business objectives via outsourcing their data center infrastructure needs to a tested Provider.

The conference featured presentations from other industry thought leaders including a representative of the Ministry of Communications Technology, relevant Stakeholder groups and professional Consultants including Accenture and Deloitte.
